Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth cleanings help you achieve a brighter smile and improve or maintain your overall health. While it is important to floss and brush regularly, it isn't enough to maintain the oral health that you need and deserve. Getting your teeth cleaned by our dentist is beneficial, as it takes care of any plaque or debris that may otherwise result difficult to remove.

East Brewster Dental inBrewster,Masachussets offers professional teeth cleanings, done by our qualified dentist. This article will help you understand this process and what you can expect.

What is a Regular Cleaning?

A regular cleaning consists of a process in which our dentist eliminates stains, tartar, and plaque from your teeth. This teeth cleaning process is typically recommended by our dentist to be done at least twice a year. For patients with gum health issues, our dentist could recommend more visits for teeth cleanings and other treatments.

Deep Cleaning

This form of teeth cleaning is recommended by our dentist if you have any signs of gum disease. These can include: a strong buildup of tartar and plaque under the gums, bleeding gums, x-rays showing tooth loss and/or identification of deep gum pockets.

Periodontal Maintenance

This type of teeth cleaning is typically recommended by our dentist after you have undergone a deep cleaning. Continuous maintenance is significant as there are high chances of recurrence of gum disease if proper follow-up isn’t done. This process of teeth cleaning includes removal of tartar and plaque from below and above the gum line, deep cleaning of certain areas on your teeth, and is followed up by a teeth polish. This process is also advised after oral surgery.

Full Mouth Debridement

In some cases, if there is too much tartar or plaque buildup, making it difficult to even conduct an oral examination, our dentist might recommend this teeth cleaning procedure. Full mouth debridement includes the complete elimination of hard tartar and plaque from your gums and teeth. This process of teeth cleaning is done by our dentist before the oral examination is conducted and further diagnosis can be given on your current oral health.

What Are the Benefits of Teeth Cleaning?

As mentioned before, the teeth cleaning process is crucial for your overall oral health. There are plenty of reasons why you should visit our dentist to get your teeth cleaned. Some advantages you will experience are as follows:

  1. Cavity Prevention
  2. Tooth Loss Prevention
  3. Bad Breath Prevention
  4. Brighter Smile
  5. Improved Health

How Frequently Should You Have Your Teeth Cleaned?

Our dentist will advice when thorough teeth cleanings should be performed and our team will schedule you accordingly. The frequency you would need teeth cleanings can vary, so it is advised to schedule an appointment with our dentist. A protocol for teeth cleanings and other dental procedures can be given at that time.

For children, it’s recommended that parents take their children to be seen by our dentist generally as early as three years of age and get their teeth cleaned twice a year. This helps them maintain a good oral hygiene from a young age.

Take Home Trays

Take-home whitening trays are a type of teeth whitening procedure that you can perform at the comfort of your home. This is an easy and cost-effective teeth whitening treatment that can be easily obtained. You must follow the instructions given by our dentist to see the results at home. Although they can be a convenient option, obtaining great results can take longer than other treatments and they don’t always work well for deep stains. These trays are custom made to go over your teeth, and whiten your teeth through a special gel that is found on the inside of the trays.

Theses trays, once made for you, can then be taken home as a teeth whitening kit, along with the guidelines given by our dentist. The time that they must remain on your teeth can vary according to your teeth whitening needs.

How Take-home Whitening Trays Work

Custom whitening trays are trays that are clear and are usually made of a clear plastic that comfortably adjust when inserted. A small dollop of gel is inserted in each tray, giving them their whitening properties. The gel consists of a hydrogen peroxide solution that actively whitens the enamel of the teeth.

After they have been used and are taken off, they need to be cleaned with a Q-tip or a cloth and rinsed. This makes them ready to be used again. It is not suggested to use them for at least another day, after each application.

These whitening trays can be used several times to obtain the desired results. Our dentist can further advice on how many times they should be used in your case. Also, you can have them customize to you needs.

Zoom!

The Zoom teeth whitening kit comprises of a hydrogen peroxide gel and a lamp that delivers UV light. The hydrogen peroxide gel is first applied to the patient’s teeth and

the purpose of the UV light is to break down the activated gel, allowing oxygen to enter the enamel. The oxygen then bleaches the yellow surface of your teeth, resulting in a whiter smile.
